Spain: Report and Age Pattern from the Spanish pilot organisation
Report age pattern
In the region Estepa - Sierra Sur, there are two Homes for the Elderly
benefiting from the Compliment project. They are a good representation of the
reality existing in Spain regarding Homes for the Elderly. The Centre in Estepa
is the typical home that have been working for years in the hands of a religious
order and that has always done its work as a charity service. It has been
working for years but it was finally registered as a centre in 1996. Since the
beginning, nuns were the carers of the old people there and they engaged
women to help in the assistance and the needs of users. Employees were
engaged according to their personal skills and qualifications were not
necessary. When the centre was legally created in 1996 people with no
qualifications were engaged as the philosophy in the running of the centre was
the same as the traditionally established. It was from 2000 on when employees
with qualifications started being engaged as the law ruling the social sector
became stricter.
