The Effects of demographic change, skill development in social care
The first scientific report of the European Project COMPLIMENT: Competence Development and Age-Diversity- Self-direct Learning and Skill Development of Both Older and Younger Employees of the Social Care Sector
The first scientific report deals with Phase 2 of the COMPLIMENT-project. This phase has three important activities:
• the compilation of a country analysis to „the effects of demographic change on the demands placed on the workforce of nursing home care for the elderly and the handicapped" (see chapter 3, Focus of the COMPLIMENT-Project)
• research and description of examples of best-practices with „measures to sustain and increase the employability" of the workforce in the social sector
• the implementation of age-pattern analyses and established measures of personnel development, specifically management of the ageing workforce in the pilot projects of the partner countries.
The situation analysis and description of best-practices of the four partner countries can be viewed in its entirety on the project's homepage under www.complimentproject.org. The actual report contains the
summary of all integral results from individual country reports which were then place into an overriding European context. Furthermore, the concept and the potentials of Age-Management are discussed and their implementation in practice is illustrated by examples from each partner countries. Finally a set of
recommendations is presented, which potentially could increase knowledge and expertise of the European social sector in general, as well as contribute to the maintenance and preservation of its workforce's employability.
